Timbre Music, Singapore, 24 September 2009 - No chicken dancing here. Timbre Music presents an Erdinger Oktoberfest with a modern twist featuring Switzerland funk band STARCH from 9 to 11 October 2009 at Timbre Mobile located at East Coast Park. 

 

Timbre Mobile (at East Coast Park) is the latest addition to the Timbre chain of outlets. Akin to its predecessors (Timbre @ The Substation, Timbre @ Old School and Timbre @ The Arts House), it is an outdoor venue seeped into to its natural surroundings and offers live music nightly. Unlike its siblings however, it is literally a Timbre outlet on the move as per its name. Working closely with National Parks Board, Timbre Mobile calls its first home at the space formerly known as Parkland Golf Driving Range (beside car park C1) from now to June 2010. It relocates to a to-be-disclosed park venue in July 2010 where it will be housed for another four months before shifting to the next location.

With a deliberate move to be environmentally sustainable, Timbre Mobile is ingeniously built up from disused 20-footer containers. Containers are adorned with second-hand wooden claddings and with four of such containers, an open concept kitchen, a uniquely designed bar, a stage and even a VIP area for the best seats in the house are carved out.

Tables and chairs are custom made out from recycled processed wood pallets. These pallets are made of discarded wood material used in the manufacturing process of wood products and are more eco-friendly compared to traditional hardwood pallets. The entire floor area of Timbre Mobile is decked with the same pallets, presenting a streamlined look. Plans are also underway to build up green walls out from the containers. Such living walls absorb accumulative heat from the containers and also reduce the overall temperature at the venue to create a more cooling environment.

 

To kick off Timbre Mobile with a bang, STARCH is selected to offer an unconventional musical quirk to the tradition celebration of Oktoberfest. Playing together for more than a decade and known as a first-class live act, STARCH has performed at more than 200 Swiss concerts and festivals (the likes of Montreux Jazz Festival, Europe’s most prestigious music event; Switzerland’s oldest festival, the St. Gallen OpenAir and more) and toured through Germany, Austria, Spain, Hungary and Croatia in the last few years. The world of STARCH is young, bold and outrageous with fat funk blending with hip-hop rhymes and burning rock riffs – a definitive group of young and inventive musicians who combine wild ska parts and hard beats, P-funk keys solo with a Balkan hornlick or even jazz solos with boy band dance moves. Perfect for a renegade Oktoberfest blowout.  m
